The main limitation is the perforated band. Holes accommodate the worm screw but remove metal from the band, weakening it and creating corrosion starting points. The better specification is an embossed-band worm-gear marine hose clamp, where screw threads are raised from the band rather than cut through it. Not recommended for below-waterline through-hulls, engine exhaust, or any high-vibration connection.

T-Bolt Marine Hose Clamps

What Is the Difference Between 304 and 316 Stainless Steel Hose Clamps?

Both grades look identical. In a marine environment they perform very differently.

Both 304 and 316 stainless contain chromium that forms a passive oxide layer preventing rust. The critical difference is that 316 stainless contains 2 to 3 percent molybdenum. 304 does not. Molybdenum provides significantly superior resistance to chloride attack, the specific corrosion mechanism in saltwater. Without it, chlorides penetrate the passive layer on 304 stainless, causing pitting and the brown staining known as tea staining. In a bilge or on a through-hull, a 304 stainless steel hose clamp can show visible corrosion within a single season.

How Do You Install Double Clamps Correctly?

  1. Position the first clamp closest to the end of the fitting barb.

  4. Tighten both clamps to snug, firm but not over-torqued. Over-tightening distorts the hose wall and can crush the fitting barb, creating a new leak at the point of damage
